Hello Friends,
Some quilts have a way of stopping you in your tracks, and these two quilts couldn’t be more different—yet each is stunning in its own right.
The first quilt is Fade to Grey, a beautiful pattern by Tula Pink, expertly pieced by my talented client, Lorene.
This quilt is a masterpiece of contrast, blending soft greys and deep charcoals into a dramatic gradient that draws your eye across the entire design. The striking animal motifs scattered throughout the quilt add an element of whimsy and wonder, while the vibrant pops of color along the border create the perfect finishing touch.
For the quilting, I chose a modern interlocking circle design that complemented the geometric piecing while adding movement and texture throughout the quilt. The circular motif softened the strong lines of the pattern and created a beautiful secondary design that enhances the quilt without overwhelming the incredible fabrics. The quilting texture catches the light beautifully and gives the entire quilt a sophisticated, contemporary feel.
The second quilt is a vibrant celebration of color and texture, featuring a stunning collection of metallic batiks. The rich jewel tones, soft pastels, and shimmering metallic accents come together in a design that seems to sparkle from every angle. The combination of black and white elements creates a striking framework that allows the batik fabrics to truly shine.
To complement the quilt’s geometric design, I used a flowing curved quilting pattern that echoes the movement already present in the piecing. The quilting adds depth and dimension while allowing the beautiful batik fabrics to remain the star of the show. The metallic details catch the light beautifully, creating subtle flashes of shimmer throughout the quilt.
One of the things I love most about quilting is seeing how different fabric choices can completely transform a project. While Fade to Grey showcases the beauty of a carefully curated monochromatic palette with dramatic focal prints, the metallic batik quilt celebrates color, energy, and movement. Both quilts are wonderful examples of how fabric, design, and quilting come together to create something truly special.
Thank you, Lorene, for trusting me with your beautiful Fade to Grey quilt.
It was a pleasure working with you again.
Until next time “Have a Sew Happy Day”
Jenn.
