Some quilts instantly transport you to a special place, and this beautiful Sailboat quilt by Tilda Fabrics feels like a peaceful day by the water.
Pieced by one of my talented clients, this quilt features rows of charming sailboats drifting across a soft sandy background. The combination of delicate florals, classic ginghams, playful dots, and beautiful shades of blue creates a timeless coastal feel that is both calming and cheerful.
When it came time for the quilting, I wanted to enhance the nautical theme while keeping the focus on the sweet sailboats. I chose a combination of flowing wave motifs and straight-line quilting. The waves gently move across the background, giving the impression of water and ocean breezes, while the straight-line quilting in the boat hulls adds texture and definition to each sailboat.
One of my favorite details in this quilt is the variety of fabrics used in the sails. Each boat has its own personality, yet together they create a cohesive and peaceful design. The soft blues and creams paired with the warm neutral background remind me of quiet mornings at the coast, watching sailboats drift across calm waters.
It is always a privilege to help bring a client’s quilt to completion, and this one was especially enjoyable to quilt. The combination of Tilda’s whimsical design and the thoughtful fabric choices made this project a joy from start to finish.
