Hello Fellow Followers,
I wanted to share this beautiful mermaid wall art that I was commissioned to make, this beauty was a true labor of love.
It started when my aunt called me to make a special gift for her daughter in law, as she wanted something ocean themed, we went through patterns, fabrics and came up with the perfect fit, this is a pattern by McKenna Ryan called Mermaid Kisses.
It’s an appliqué pattern with over 100 pieces, that intertwine fish, turtles, seahorses and a variety of sea plants with the main focal point being the beautiful mermaid kissing a turtle.
It took me more then 120 hours to complete this wall hanging, we chose to use beautiful vibrant Batiks from Mckenna’s fabric line for this pattern.
I first started by tracing all the intricate pieces, on freezer paper then I prepared the background which was a stair step design. I attached all the pin point pieces and set them all in place, once they where all set in there free floating form.
I finished it buy flipping it inside out as this pattern and design did not have binding it’s an art quilt, it’s supposed to lay extremely flat when hung on a wall, I then thread painted on the sea plants along with all the tiny fish and seahorse’s I then top quilted the sea like waves in to the piece, making swirls, loops and pebbling and accented around the mermaid.
When I finished top quilting this beauty on my domestic machine, I added heat set crystals and attached hanging loops on the back it turned out exceptional it made me want to go visit the ocean.
I hope you all enjoy the beautiful pictures of this wonderful wall art and thank you Debbie for your support and encouragement in helping me reach for my dreams.
Until next time have a Sew happy day!
